KENYA AND AFRICAN BARISTA CHAMPION 2007 In 2007 Kenya National barista championship (knbc) only a different of five points makes John Muli Makau of Nairobi java house a winner from Nicodemus of c.dormans.The two Barista had their passion and professional in coffee, from tree to the cup. Barista in Kenya had a hard time when it comes to competition because its held only once per year and no inter competition taking place before the main event. Kenya being known for its best quality coffee in the world I think we can be proud of our product and do something about barista.Thro barista competition we can teach and bring more people in the world of coffee and turn them from tea .Also having barista school we can train more and have inter competition which will improve the standard of competition and we can do better in WBC. PASSION: John on stage during WBC in Tokyo, Japan
Our coffee being known for its bright Acidity and balanced body I think Kenyan can do better, appreciate and consume their product like any other countries do, such as Ethiopia and Brazil, they consume heavily or more than 50% of there production. This will be very good economic boost to farmers and the value chain as a whole in coffee farmers. Try the best Arabica bean in the world known for its distinct bright acidity, which means it has a collective balanced and pleasing aroma and a medium body. To add on top is that, when it becomes to coffee quality in Kenya its very ok because all you need is to know all the stages of coffee from tree to the cup, by visiting the farmers during plantation, harvesting and also treatment of different diseases which affects the bean like coffee berry diseases, coffee leaf lust and bacterial blight of coffee. Then come to the millers all the processes up to the factory, know about roasting different coffee, making the blends, cupping to identify the quality coffee that can give you the quality cup. This is the best way to know your cup. THE REIGNING CHAMP 07 AND 08 John Muli being the last year’s champion, he managed again to defend his championship for the second time in Kenya National Barista championship consectively. Now he is representing Kenya to World Barista Championship which will take place at Denmark Copenhagen June. The passion, hard work and time management made him to clock the time and have extra activities to accomplish and crown to emerge the shinning and wining star. This time, the competition amongst the best six finalist champions, was so stiff leading to high scoring of 35 points a head to his 1st runner Jimmy whom he works with, Compared to last year’s only 5 points. Barista in Kenya is becoming more and better. Many Baristas are knowing the importance of Barista competition. And because of this, Kenyans have closer and keen interest in coffee and many of them are changing from Tea drinking culture to Coffee drinking culture. And this is a plus to our economy.
