The Danish specialty coffee association, SCAE Denmark, has appointed the Danish barista Mikkel P. Madsen from Sigfreds Kaffebar in Aarhus to represent Denmark in the Coffee In Good Spirits competition.
Unfortunately there was not enough competitors to have a national championship, so Mikkel has nok competed in this kind of competition. But he participated in this years Danish barista Championship where he finished 3rd. A very impressing performance, since he only had one year experience as a barista. See more about Mikkel and his participation in the Danish Barista Championship here.

The Dutch Barista Championship was held Monday the 21st of April. 10 baristas had made it to the finals after the semi-finals. The competition took place at a great venue with good space for the audience. There were several espresso machines around so people could taste coffees and a big screen made sure that close-up details of the competitors’ presentation were fully visible. The Dutch Barista Competition was held alongside the Dutch Latte Art Championship. So judges had 15 minutes between each competitior to do the usual calibration and compare scores, while the audience could watch the other competition. There was a great flow in entertainment. The 10 competitors ranged widely in age and experience, but all presented themselves very well. In the end Sander Schat from the Barista Company won the title of 2008 Dutch Barista Champion. He was closely followed by Yakup Aydin (Het Jagerhuis) and on third place came Marielle Fiene (Café de Blonde Pater). The Netherland is one year ahead on their competitions, so for the WBC 2008 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Liesbeth Sleijster will represent the country. Congratulations to Sander Schat, who will be competing in the WBC 2009 in United States.
